Today, we honour Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Today, we remember Two-Spirit, trans, and non-binary people killed around the world because of hatred and oppression.
Today we remember all the creative and political contributions to society from Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender diverse individuals.
Today, we strive to raise awareness of the continued oppression of transgender people due to the ongoing intolerance of diverse ways of being. We are working toward creating a world where everyone gets to feel safe and feel a sense of belonging.
Today, we give transgender people and their allies a chance to step forward and stand in support, memorializing those who have lost their lives for being authentically themselves. Today we are working toward creating an inclusive future with an end to violence against gender diverse people.

We begin this gathering by acknowledging the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous people.
