Art

The St. Catharines Collegiate Art Department produces top quality art students who have qualified to attend prestigious art schools in Canada and the United States.  We offer a diverse program including drawing, painting, design, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking and pottery.  Our photography department offers digital and black and white studios including a dedicated darkroom.

We have the best facilities in Niagara and our own student exhibition space called “The Gallery”.  Our first exhibit “Chiaroscuro” opens in October and features our Grade 11 class.  Student artwork is featured prominently throughout the school.

Recent Collegiate Art Department grads include John Shaw (Mount Allison, Nova Scotia, Class of 2009), Alan Kim (Parsons School of Art, New York City, Class of 2013), Tricia Moore (Concordia University, Montreal, Class of 2014), Richard Dromey (Pittsburg University, Pittsburg, Class of 2013), and Mason Mummery (sculpture technician and artist OCAD, Class of 2011), Jordynn Colossi (Ryerson University, Photography, Toronto, Class of 2014).

Dance

The Collegiate Dance Program provides students with the opportunity to explore a variety
of dance disciplines, while developing skills that will help them be successful not only in the arts, but the world at large.  Students work collaboratively to create original pieces and learn set choreography.  Diverse programming allows students to gain experience in dancing, choreography, improvisation, lighting, staging, music editing, hair, make-up and costume design and creation.  Collegiate Dance prides itself on the diversity of its students, appealing to students who want to participate in a fun elective to students who wish to pursue dance at a post-secondary and professional level.

The Collegiate Dance Program offers an extensive course of study.  Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities within the school and community.  Students are able to develop confidence and personal growth through their involvement in real world situations.  As part of the dance program at the senior grade level, the students have an opportunity to compete in dance.  The team is very successful in winning awards and scholarships.

Drama

The Collegiate Drama Program provides students with the opportunity to explore a variety of theatrical disciplines, while developing skills that will help them be successful not only in the art but the world at large.  Students works collaboratively to create original and published pieces.  Diverse programming allows students to gain experience in acting, directing, script writing, improvisation, mask, lighting and sound design, set design and construction, hair, make-up, and costume design and creation.  Collegiate Drama prides itself on the diversity of its students, appealing to students who want to participate in a fun elective, to students who wish to pursue theater at a post-secondary and professional level.

The Collegiate Drama Program offers an extensive course of study.  Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities within the school and community partners.  Students are able to develop confidence and personal growth through their involvement in real world situations.

Music

The Music Department  at St. Catharines Collegiate offers students a diverse, world-view of the performing art of Music. We offer Instrumental and Vocal Music from grades 9-12, a beginner guitar program in Grades 10 and 11, and the region's only Hand-Drumming program in grades 10 and 11. We also offer a Jazz Band Credit for experienced instrumental music students. Extra-curricular experiences change with student demand and vary from the large Concert band to smaller Combos and Rock bands.

All of our classes include the study of Western Music and Music from around the world with opportunities to perform, compose, and collaborate. Our program reflects, enhances and celebrates our student body's wonderful diversity of experience and heritage.

We have graduates who are studying or have studied in schools around North America including Brock University, University of Western Ontario, University of Toronto, Wilfrid Laurier University, St. Francis Xavier University, Eastman University, Humber College, and Mohawk College. Many other students play music locally and abroad.
